Pdf Summary
The Cardio-Obstetrics (OB) Level I Education Program offers comprehensive foundational training for cardiovascular and maternal fetal medicine (MFM) fellows across the U.S. and Canada. It consists of eight fully online asynchronous modules (30-60 minutes each) with didactic, case-based, and interactive content. Two modules are discipline-specific—Module 2A for cardiology fellows and Module 2B for MFM fellows—while others cover common core topics. The program is developed by interdisciplinary faculty expert teams, including 50 national leaders from 30 institutions, with content review by assistant editors to ensure accuracy and relevance.

The curriculum aims to enhance fellows' understanding of maternal cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, with a focus on risk factors, physiology, preconception counseling, diagnostic and management strategies for high-risk cardiovascular conditions during pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum care. Key learning objectives include hemodynamic changes in pregnancy, cardiovascular screening and risk stratification, management of heart failure, arrhythmia, ischemia, congenital and valvular diseases, metabolic and hypertensive disorders, and delivery/postpartum considerations.

Modules provide topics such as maternal cardiovascular epidemiology; cardiac history-taking for obstetricians; arrhythmia management; advanced cardiac imaging interpretation; anticoagulation during pregnancy; hypertensive disorders; and complications from cancer therapy. Case examples and clinical guidelines support practical application. Several nationally recognized guidelines, landmark studies, and expert clinical reviews supplement the learning experience.

Requirements are minimal, needing only internet access with audio-visual capabilities. The program is available at no cost to trainees and program directors, promoting equitable access to specialized cardio-obstetrics training. This education is designed to improve multidisciplinary collaboration and ultimately reduce maternal cardiovascular morbidity and mortality through enhanced understanding, diagnosis, and management across cardiology and maternal fetal medicine specialties.
